10 Cards 1 Kit and BONUS A2 Card Box • Love From Lizi • July 2021 Card Kit

Hello Folks! Scott here with my 10 cards inspired by the new Love From Lizi July 2021 “Summer Botany” Card Kit! This kit is overflowing with beautiful florals and all sorts of papers and unique stamps perfect for backgrounds.

As usual, I do cut the 8.5″ x 11″ colored card stock in the kit down to A2 card sizes and use those for my card bases. Now, Lizi kept referring to “multi-media” projects when she was doing her unboxing, so I figured I would go in that direction!

I took the multi-media suggestion to heart with this first card. I ink smooshed the front of the Warm Yellow card base with Vintage Photo, Aged Mahogany and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide inks, and when dry, stamped a number of our text stamps all over the background – you can even see a few tiny dragonflies. If your ink pads are juicy at all, I would recommend second generation stamping. Stamp the images on scrap paper first, and then to your card… these are pretty smallish stamps with tiny details and they can get over-inked fairly easily. I added some textured dots on the sides with some Opaque Texture Paste through a dotted stencil. Then I ink blended the edges with Vintage Photo and Black Soot Distress ink and figured that was enough for the background!

I stamped these three stamps on one of the 3″ x 4″ cut apart panels using VersaFine Onyx Black ink – being careful not to over-ink the stamps. I added a little color to the rose with alcohol markers, stamped a few of the smaller images around the polka-dot border, and ink blended the edges with Vintage Photo. I added a thin mat of the striped pattern paper (ink blending the edges as well) and added a piece of lace from my stash (tinted with more Vintage Photo ink) to the left side of that panel. I ink distressed the edges of the yellow ticket, glued a couple pieces of card stock behind it for a touch of dimension and glued it to the card front. The main panel is mounted with foam tape, and I finished with a heart sticker (inked edges) and a few sequins for a subtle little sparkle. I don’t know if I can go more “multi-media” on a card…!

I learned a lot from that card! Don’t ink smoosh directly on a card base. Too much stress…! There is also a limit to how much “multi-media” you can add to a card before the return isn’t worth it any more. Though they match the dotted background of the cut-apart, the Texture Paste dots were over doing it a bit…! Aways stamp-off these stamps. Especially if your ink pad is juicy! Let’s see if I can practice what I preach!

We had one ephemera piece that was the exact same size as the matching image on one of the cut apart panels. We actually get two of these 3″ x 4″ panels in slightly different shades of blue. I believe I went with the lighter shade. To begin with, I used my X-acto knife, to fussy cut the white borders away form this floral ephemera piece. Slow and steady wins the race! This is almost like decoupage! I ink blended the edges of the sentiment panel with Vintage Photo ink, and glued a pattern paper mat (edges ink blended too) behind that. I cut a piece of the blue pattern paper to 4″ x 5.25″ and die-cut a pattern into the right side of that panel with an old LDRS Background Builder die. I dutifully ink blended more Vintage Photo to the edges of that, added a strip of lace ribbon around the bottom (from the LFL August ’18 kit) and glued that down to the Teal card base.

I mounted the sentiment panel and mat to the card front with foam tape, and added the fussy-cut ephemera with more foam tape. I decided I didn’t particularly care for the original printed sentiment: “it all begins with you” and grabbed the “today” ephemera piece, ink blended the edges of that and added it over the “you” with foam tape. This seems a little more encouraging and less self-centered..! I did add some Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen to the “today” text, and tied a small bow with one of the pieces of twine from our kit and glued that atop a sequin and down to the card front. I LOVE the ephemera piece expanding the printed image from the cut-apart panel. Thrilled I was able to get the whole piece on this card! And I guess the red white and blue theme is very apropos what with the 4th of July right around the corner!

There’s another ephemera piece that matches one of the 3″ x 4″ cut apart panels – it’s not quite the exact same size, but I think I can work with that!

There’s a riot of red for ya! Once again, I fussy-cut all the white borders away from this ephemera piece (Vintage Photo for the edges too!) and even replaced the label plate under the bow with this “The Good Life” sticker – I even added a real brad to the right side of the label plate. That striped ribbon looks SO REAL! I ink blended Vintage Photo around the edges of the 3″ x 4″ cut apart panel, glued that to a mat of the Chocolate Pearlescent card stock form this month’s Pearl Card Stock bundle, and added the ephemera piece with foam tape. Feels like more decoupage!

I stamped Cherry Red card front with 2 of the floral/text background stamps using Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink and misted it lightly with water to get the chalky highlights to appear. I added some white spatters on top of the stampings and glued the distress ink blended red ticket to the card base.

I did more ink blending on the edges of the Oh, Happy Day banner ephemera piece, and glued it to a mat of the same Chocolate pearl card stock. I glued that to the top of my main panel, added foam tape to the whole piece and attached it to the card front. A few red sequins add the perfect touch to this firecracker of a card! Oh Happy Day indeed!

I needed a little break after those three cards, so I jumped at the large sentiment from one of our pattern papers.

I die-cut this panel with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle die and stamped the lace border on the top and bottom using Hero Arts Sea Salt Reactive ink – again, this is second generation stamping so I don’t obliterate all the details – came out pretty good and adds a nice touch to the dark pattern paper. I cut a piece of Hero Hues Antique Ivory card stock to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamped one of the text stamps around the edges using Vintage Photo ink. I glued those pieces together and down to the Black card base, added three heart stickers and a few sequins for some fun embellishment, and we have a fairly simple card that still feels a little “multi-media”..!

We have a lot of these ‘metal’ label plates on our sticker sheet and cut-apart sheets and ephemera… a lot of them have terrific sentiments and sayings on them… and I have lots of tiny brads… I couldn’t resist this one.

This gave me a chance to play with that big piece of lace in our embellishment bag. I cut a piece of plain white card stock to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamped the rose/butterfly and Paris stamps with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink. (Look for the tiny dragonflies, too!) I also did a light blend around the edges with the same ink and glued that down to a White card base. I trimmed the lace to this pleasant shape and glued that to the card front. I glued the sunshine “ticket” behind the lace at the top, and added the ephemera flowers with foam tape (no need to fussy-cut the border on this one)! I added a couple tiny brads to the sentiment sticker label plate and mounted that towards the bottom with foam tape.

I used some yellow glassine paper (kite paper) doubled up with some Xyron adhesive to die-cut the dragonfly silhouette. The pressure of the die-cutting actually wrinkled the kite paper so perfectly, that I had to check to see if there were embossing lines on the die – nope! Just a happy accident! I colored his “body” with a black marker and glued him (just his body) down to the lace. Some gold sequins add a bit more sparkle and shine to this cheerful sunshine-y card.

That’s really a nice piece of lace and I thought it added a great deal to that card – and there’s still more to play with!

I stamped the bird / label stamp on the Teal card base using Broken China Distress Oxide ink. I ink blended more Vintage Photo on the blue “hello” ticket and a 1 3/8″ x 5.5″ piece of the polka-dot pattern paper and glued both to the left edge of the card base which continued the Vintage Photo distressed edges. I glued more of the lace across the center making sure to glue the edges securely. I added the ephemera flowers, heart, “hello” and the bird sticker with foam tape. I die-cut the button from one of the yellow “ticket” stickers using a die from the Love From Lizi June 2018 card kit and, added two more die-cut buttons of white card stock to add thickness, tied a bow through the buttonholes with a stripped-down piece of twine, and glued that over the button printed on the ephemera birdhouse. I really like the color palette on this card and the button adds another touch of multi-media!! Vive Bene, Spesso L’amore, Di Risata Molto!

Back to more fussy-cutting! If you give me large florals, I’m automatically drawn to creating dimension with them!

I cut these flowers out from the “you are enough” pattern paper and inked all the edges with Vintage Photo Distress oxide ink. I die cut the sentiment from one of the 3′ x 4″ cut apart sheets (and the black mat behind) using the Hero Arts Tag Frame Infinity die, and ink blended the edges of the sentiment with more Vintage Photo before gluing them both together. I cut the polka-dot pattern paper to 4″ x 5.25″, ink blended the edges with Vintage Photo, and wrapped some twine across the top before gluing that down to the Black card base. I added the framed sentiment with foam tape and glued the flat edge of the flowers directly to the card front and added foam on the cut edges. I managed to slip a little bit of the flower piece behind and above the twine on the top left. Lastly, I added a double bow tied from the same twine, perfectly highlighting the top of the sentiment. I’m not sure why, but I really like this card! Great sentiment!

One more label plate from our ephemera pack caught my eye, and I was really itching to use that big floral sticker!

On the Warm Yellow card base, I stamped the floral stamps and some extra text using Aged Mahogany Distress oxide ink and second-generation stamping. I cut the pattern paper to 2.25″ x 5.5″, matted that to a 2.5″ width of the Embossed Gold specialty card stock and a 2 5/8″ width of the Green Glitter specialty card stock, and glued that stack to the center of the card base. I added small brads to the ephemera label plate, and foam taped that and the flower to the card front. A scattering of sequins adds even more sparkle to this card, and I love that single bloom!

I had my kite paper still sitting on my desk from my small dragonfly, and I wanted to try the BIG dragonfly die too!

Now this feels a little more familiar to me! I took a piece of plain white card stock and dry-embossed on it with the Altenew Fine Frames Cover die. I trimmed that down and printed the sentiment on it using my Silhouette Software and the Noteworthy font. I die-cut the dragonfly from some Black Tie glitter card stock and three flowers from some of the dark pattern paper on the “never forget your amazing” pattern paper. I glued kite paper to the back of the die cuts and trimmed away the excess. I glued the embossed panel to the White card base, added the flowers and dragonfly with foam tape, and added two die-cut glassine leaves for a little extra touch. That glassine paper really lends itself so well to wings and flowers and any stained glass effects you might want to try. I love that his eyes are yellow too!

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I have been steering away from the butterflies in this kit. There are a lot of butterflies in this kit, and we just had a whole kit about butterflies two months ago… but, alas, I guess I couldn’t avoid them forever.

I stamped the Altenew Dainty Swiss Dots stamp on the Cherry Red bard base using VersaMark ink and embossed that with LFL Golden Crown Embossing powder. I cut these three butterflies from their patten paper at 2.25″ x 4.75″ and, using my X-acto knife, fussy-cut their wings (but not their bodies!). I glued that to the Embossed Gold specialty card stock cut to 2.5″ x 5″ and glued those to the left of the card front. I fussy-cut the sentiment from the 3″ x 4″ cut apart panel that said “you are loved you are enough” and glued them to super thin mats of Gold and mounted them with foam tape. I did add little spots of foam tape behind the butterfly wings to make sure they kept their dimension. I love seeing the gold behind the butterflies and at the right angle, it looks like those wings are outlined with gold!

Now, I haven’t used any of the 4″ x 4″ panels from that particular cut apart sheet, so thought I would share the card box that I first created from a single sheet of 12″ x 12″ pattern paper back in my LFL April 2020 kit video. I was mostly interested in creating a box that had the center cut apart panel perfectly front and center on the box itself.

Score one side of your 12″ x 12″ pattern paper at 2 3/4′, 3 3/4″, 8 1/4″, 9 1/4″. Rotate your paper 90 degrees and score the other way at 2 1/8″, 3 1/8″, 8 7/8″, 9 7/8″. I guess the easiest way to illustrate this is to illustrate it!

If you have pattern paper with a special image in the center, this is the perfect way to highlight the center of your pattern paper. Once you score, cut, and fold your card stock, it’s fairly simple to assemble – I tend to leave the extra tabs on the bottom for a sturdier base but you could cut some of those away. And you can trim your top flap to tuck into the back, or you can leave it whole for a simple fold-over closure. I think this is one of the greatest uses for some of that 12″ x 12″ pattern paper that’s always cluttering up our storage bins!

This is a front and back view of the A2 card box I made with the 4×4 cut apart sheet from this kit. Instead of loading this with cards, I had a great idea to fill it full of everything you need to make your own set of cards – kind of a mini kit!

I managed to get a lot of card making paraphernalia in this little box – we have 5 white glimmer card bases with matching envelopes, all sorts of pattern paper in assorted shapes from 4.25″ x 5.5″ down to .5″ x 5.5″. There are also six of the 3″ x 4″ can apart panels, three squares of the 2″ x 2″ cut apart sheet, a small batch of stickers, six sheets of glue dots and one sheet of foam tape and even an embellishment bag with twine, lace, some butterfly ribbon, ephemera, one paper flower and a small bag of sequins. Plenty of items to make your own set of cards! I think I know a few people who would get a kick out of receiving a gift like this! What do you think? A really nice collection of “multi-media” cards this month. Like and Love cards, Thank You cards and a number of encouragement cards. I did use almost every stamp in this set, but I missed a couple of the small sentiment stamps, and between the cards and the mini-kit I used up almost everything in this kit! I still have enough cut apart sheets and pattern paper to add to my stash. I did use 4 of the dies, and lots of the embellishments, but I didn’t get to the paper flowers (I thought they were a little large for these designs) and I avoided the butterfly ribbon just on principal!
